Sifaka is a 7-piece band from Leeds, setting stages alight with their fusion of Soul, Rock and African Blues. Growing up with an obsession for the 60s and the music of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, Sifaka’s sound unleashes powerful riffs, seething solos and soaring vocals. Now, in 2017, they believe the spirit and sound of the blues is to be found in the continent it first came from - Africa. Fusing elements of African blues with their beloved rock music, Sifaka has developed their own unique sound, taking them to the frontier of the blues!
Since forming just a year ago, Sifaka have won the Trinity Competition to find Leeds’ top up and coming bands, following up with gigs a Leeds best venues (The Wardrobe, Hi-Fi Club, Hyde Park Book Club). This summer they have played a string of UK Festivals (Live at Leeds, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Bath International Music Festival, HowTheLightGetsIn) and released their EP ‘Sifaka’ to critical acclaim (BBC Introducing, BCB Radio, State of The Arts Magazine, Salford City Radio). Following an invitation to play the renown Sunday Joint at Leeds’ Hi-Fi Club (Gentleman's Dub Club, Hot 8 Brass Band, Corinne Bailey-Rae) Sifaka’s EP Launch was covered in the New York Times and named BBC Introducing’s Gig of the Week.
